Family-owned Wine Ghetto winery pouring small-lot Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Syrah from Sta. Rita Hills fruit, with a 6,000 sq ft garden patio.
Montemar is a small family-owned winery in Lompoc's Wine Ghetto. Steve and Caryn Arrowood started making wine in their garage in 1991; after Steve retired from aerospace they bonded the winery in 2009, opened the tasting room in 2013, and built the winery in time for the 2015 harvest. When Steve passed away in 2020, son Kyle — who came on full-time in 2018 — took over as second-generation winemaker. Montemar sources all its fruit from premium vineyards in the Sta. Rita Hills and other Santa Barbara County AVAs, farming some of the same vineyard blocks since the 1990s. Production runs about 1,200 cases a year, averaging under 100 cases per lot, with small-lot bottlings exclusive to wine club members. The tasting room pours flights alongside a 6,000 sq ft outdoor space and "Ghetto Organic" garden; cheese and charcuterie are available, and well-behaved kids and pets are welcome. Motto: Serious Wines, Serious Fun!
