Fifty acres on the southeast edge of town, laid up against the foothills — Beattie is the biggest park in Lompoc and the one with the view. Down low it's a full community park: playground, two lighted basketball courts, a soccer and football field, horseshoe pits, a disc golf course, and group picnic areas. Up the hill there's an urban forest preserve with a winding fitness trail that climbs to Lookout Point, the highest spot in the park. The climb is steep enough to count as a workout, and what you get at the top is the whole Lompoc Valley spread out below you — and on a genuinely clear day, the Pacific.
Go up to Lookout Point about an hour before sunset; the climb is short but steep, so take water. The disc golf course is free and rarely crowded on weekday evenings. Group picnic areas can be reserved through the city.
