Spear Vineyards & Winery is a family-owned, sustainably farmed, herbicide-free estate founded by vigneron Ofer Shepher, who began winemaking studies at UC Davis in 2004 and moved to the historic Gnesa Ranch in 2005. Planted in 2014 along the Highway 246 corridor, the estate ranks among the highest plantings in the Sta. Rita Hills AVA — peaking at 900 feet — with 40 acres in production across Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Syrah, Grenache Noir and Grüner Veltliner. The house motto: "Wine that tastes like where it came from." The tasting room rises from the footprint and roofline of the property's original 1920s dairy barn, with panoramic vineyard views inside and a seated patio outside. Visits run Thursday–Monday, 10am–5pm by appointment (last seating 3pm): the Spear Signature Wine Tasting ($40, fee waived with three bottles) and a seasonal Vineyard Tour & Tasting Experience ($80), both booked through Tock.
