Allan Hancock College's $290 million facilities bond clears 55% threshold

Measure H passed with 56.99% support, authorizing upgrades to classrooms, labs, and career training facilities across the district.
Allan Hancock College's $290 million facilities bond measure has passed, with 56.99% of voters in the district approving Measure H. The measure cleared the required 55% threshold by 1.99 percentage points, receiving 20,693 votes in favor and 15,619 against across all 114 precincts, according to results released Wednesday by the Santa Barbara County Elections Division.
The bond will fund repairs, upgrades, and modernization projects across the district. Planned improvements include classrooms, laboratories, and career training facilities for programs in science, nursing, welding, machining, and other technical education. Funding will also address aging roofs, plumbing, and electrical systems, remove hazardous materials from older buildings, and bring facilities up to current safety, accessibility, and technology standards.
University Center and Oversight
A major component of the measure is a planned university center that would allow students to pursue bachelor's degrees locally through partnerships with Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and CSU Channel Islands. The estimated property tax cost is approximately $19 annually for every $100,000 of assessed property value while the bonds remain outstanding.
The measure requires an independent citizens' oversight committee, annual financial and performance audits, and public reporting. Bond proceeds cannot be used for administrator salaries, pensions, or general operating expenses. Allan Hancock College serves students throughout northern Santa Barbara County through associate degree programs, university-transfer pathways, workforce training, and career education.
Results remain unofficial pending certification by the county. For more local education news, visit /news.
