Civilization Wine Company is a small-lot winery producing its wines in Lompoc at the Lompoc Wine Factory (321 N D Street). The project's first Santa Barbara vintage came out of the 2009 Santa Maria grape harvest, after the winemaker cut his teeth with local producers including Costa de Oro, Sanguis, Grassini Family Vineyards, Margerum, Presqu'ile, and Clendenen-Lindquist Vintners. Production is currently around 400 cases a year. The wines focus on Santa Barbara County's cool-climate transverse valleys and their natural acidity, with bottlings such as Sta. Rita Hills Syrah from Ampelos Vineyard and Los Olivos District wines including Camp 4 Vineyard Grenache Blanc and Vincent Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon. The winery is open for tastings Saturday and Sunday 11am-5pm, and Friday by appointment (email CivWineCo@Gmail.com); wines are also poured at select wine shops, wine bars, and restaurants.
