Vandenberg Space Force Base is planning for a much busier future — and it's saying so out loud. On Friday, August 1, government, military, and industry leaders gathered on base for a "Spaceport of the Future Industry Day," focused on transforming the West Coast launch range into a higher-capacity spaceport capable of supporting more military, civil, and commercial missions.
What's on the table
The discussions centered on modernization — including plans involving Space Launch Complex-6, the storied pad on the south base — with base leadership among those driving the vision. The through-line: launch demand is growing faster than the range's current infrastructure was built to handle, and Vandenberg intends to grow with it.

This isn't an abstract planning exercise. The cadence is climbing right now — the launch schedule shows three Starlink missions from Vandenberg in August alone.
