Historic Artesia Schoolhouse opens Saturday with Halloween decorations

The 1876 schoolhouse museum at 115 W. Chestnut Ave. welcomes visitors from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday to explore Lompoc Valley history.

Lompoc's Artesia Schoolhouse museum opens its doors Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m., offering residents a chance to step back in time and explore the valley's educational history. The schoolhouse will be decorated for Halloween.

Built in 1876, the Artesia Schoolhouse served as the first county school in the Lompoc Valley until it closed in 1961. Today it operates as a museum preserving that history for the community.

What visitors will see

The museum displays original school desks, inkwells, and old books from the schoolhouse's operating years. One notable exhibit is a dollhouse replica of Artesia complete with miniature students at their desks.

The museum is located at 115 W. Chestnut Ave. and typically opens on the fourth Saturday of each month from 2 to 4 p.m. There is no admission charge, though donations are appreciated. For more information, call 805-588-6458 or check /events for upcoming open houses.
