Mosby and Ball Compete for Lompoc Mayor in November Election

Incumbent Mayor Jim Mosby faces a challenge from Councilman Jeremy Ball, who says the city's leadership needs a new tone.

Lompoc voters will decide between two familiar faces this November when incumbent Mayor Jim Mosby, 62, faces a challenge from City Councilman Jeremy Ball, 46. Ball is in the middle of a four-year council term but filed to run for the two-year mayoral position, saying the city's leadership needs a new tone.

Ball said the mayor represents Lompoc and sets the tone both inside and outside the city when communicating with other cities and government agencies. While the mayor has the same voting power as the other four City Council members, Ball believes the city could be better represented. He wants to focus on blighted properties, stabilize public safety staff, and ensure renters know their rights and protections.

Housing and Jobs Top Mosby's Priorities

Mosby, seeking a second stint as mayor after returning to the council in 2024, said housing and jobs are among the top issues. He took credit for leading efforts to reduce growth-impact fees by up to 92% for single-family residences. Mosby claimed that Lompoc saw zero single-family residences in recent years, but this year is slated for 350 starts or completions.

The two candidates previously faced off in November 2020, when Ball won a council seat with 58.5% of the vote compared to Mosby's 41.3%. Lompoc residents can learn more about local elections and stay informed at /news.
