Lompoc Youth Soccer Coaches Get an AED — and the Training to Use It
LVMC donates a defibrillator to AYSO Region 77 on Saturday at River Bend Park and trains coaches in AED use and first aid, funded by a CenCal Health grant.
The sidelines at River Bend Park are about to get a little safer. On Saturday, August 29, Lompoc Valley Medical Center will hand a Philips automated external defibrillator — an AED — to Lompoc AYSO Region 77, and put the league's youth soccer coaches through hands-on training on how to use it, along with basic first aid.
It's the kind of gift you hope never gets used. A sudden cardiac event on a field full of kids and parents is rare, but when it happens the first few minutes decide everything, and an AED in a coach's bag closes that gap in a way an ambulance twelve minutes out cannot.
Who made it happen
The equipment and the training are funded by a CenCal Health grant secured by the Lompoc Hospital District Foundation, with LVMC staff coordinating the training. Three local institutions, one Saturday morning, and a few hundred kids who'll never know the difference — which is exactly the point.
