County supervisors to weigh hotel and 60-unit housing project in Vandenberg Village

A hearing is set for Nov. 17 on plans for an 87-room extended-stay hotel and apartment complex on Constellation Road near Village Market.
Santa Barbara County supervisors will hold a public hearing Nov. 17 in Santa Maria to consider an extended-stay hotel and residential development in Vandenberg Village.
Constellation Land Development LLC is seeking to subdivide a 5.16-acre unimproved lot on Constellation Road off Burton Mesa Boulevard, adjacent to Village Market. The parcel is currently zoned retail commercial, but the developer proposes rezoning one portion to allow up to 30 residential units per acre.
Hotel and apartment plans
The project includes a 49,920-square-foot extended-stay hotel with 87 guest rooms, a swimming pool, 103 parking spaces, and drought-tolerant landscaping. The hotel will offer guest laundry facilities, a fitness center, a continental breakfast area, mini kitchenettes in rooms, and an outdoor pool approximately 30 feet by 13 feet with a spa. Twelve full-time and six part-time employees will staff the hotel.
The residential portion calls for 60 apartments in three new buildings, with 20 units per building. The three-story hotel would reach a maximum height of 38 feet, except for a 48-foot architectural tower feature. Developers are requesting permission to increase the height limit by about 3 feet and to exceed light levels of .2 foot-candles along the shared property line between the parcels.
