Tonight the two Lompoc high schools meet under the lights. Lompoc High's Braves face the Cabrillo Conquistadores at 7:00 PM at Huyck Stadium, 515 W College Ave, on the Lompoc High campus.
Cabrillo is the home team on paper, and the venue is the detail to get right: the Conquistadores play their home football games at Huyck Stadium while their own field on Constellation Road remains out of use, according to the Cabrillo Athletics facilities page. Two schools, one field.
Where the teams stand
The Braves come in off a 42-0 shutout of Santa Ynez in their August 28 opener, per the Lompoc High schedule on MaxPreps. For Cabrillo this is the first home date of the season.
The crosstown matchup has its own history. Lompoc owned the series for years, including a run the Lompoc Record counted at 14 straight, before Cabrillo broke through with its first win over Lompoc in 16 years. Whoever you back, this is the game the town circles.
