Weekend Trip to Lompoc from Santa Barbara or Los Angeles

Lompoc sits at a convenient travel distance from both Los Angeles (approximately 2.5–3 hours via Highway 101) and Santa Barbara (60 miles, about 90 minutes via the coast route). Getting There from Los Angeles

From LA, take Highway 101 north to Santa Barbara, then continue north through the Gaviota tunnels. Exit at Highway 1 at Gaviota and follow the coast road north to Lompoc (approximately 30 additional minutes), or continue on 101 to Buellton and approach via Highway 246 through the Santa Rita Hills wine route. The 101/Buellton approach through the wine country is more scenic for daytime driving; the coast road is more dramatic.

Getting There from Santa Barbara

From Santa Barbara, Highway 101 north to the Lompoc/Vandenberg exit runs approximately 60 miles and takes about 75 minutes without traffic. The scenic alternative via Highway 1 north from Gaviota adds 30 minutes but passes through genuinely beautiful coastline.
