Vandenberg Hosts First Sentinel ICBM Cyber Forum to Support Missile Modernization

Space Force Base brought together military, civilian, and industry partners to align cybersecurity strategy for the new Sentinel intercontinental ballistic missile program.

Vandenberg Space Force Base hosted its first Sentinel Cyber Forum, a multi-agency gathering focused on cybersecurity for the next generation of intercontinental ballistic missiles. The event brought together active-duty Airmen, Space Force Guardians from Space Launch Delta 30, California Air National Guardsmen, government civilians, and industry partners to coordinate mission support at Vandenberg.

The forum centered on aligning stakeholders who will establish the capabilities and systems needed to support Sentinel flight test operations. Lt. Col. Suzy Lamar, commander of Sentinel Task Force Detachment 9, said the event was foundational in building relationships and understanding network functionality to develop a cyber defense strategy. She emphasized the importance of safeguarding information in today's environment.

Site Tours and Cross-Mission Briefings

Visiting planners, engineers, and program leads toured Vandenberg facilities for the first time, seeing missile processing facilities and dedicated launch pads on the Western Range. The tour was followed by two days of briefings where representatives from each organization shared their roles, mission requirements, and operational capabilities.

Capt. Matthew Woodard, Air Force Global Strike Command ICBM Modernization Cyber Integration Branch chief, said Sentinel's success depends on disciplined collaboration among the people and organizations responsible for delivering and defending the networks behind the mission. The forum helped partners align responsibilities and build a stronger cyber foundation for flight test operations.

As Vandenberg serves as the testing and flight development proving ground for Sentinel, the Cyber Forum aims to create a standardized blueprint for deploying the future ICBM across operational missile wings. The Sentinel Task Force oversees the transition from the Minuteman III to the Sentinel weapon system at Vandenberg.
