Pet-Friendly Lompoc: Parks, Trails, and Businesses
Lompoc is a welcoming city for pet owners. Here's where to take your dog hiking, swimming, and socializing in the Santa Ynez Valley.
Lompoc is a good place to live with a dog. The valley's outdoor culture, its accessible trail network, and the relatively rural character of the surrounding landscape create conditions where pets are part of everyday life in a way that dense urban areas don't allow.
Dog Parks
Lompoc has a designated off-leash dog park where dogs can exercise and socialize freely. The park has separate areas for large and small dogs and basic amenities including waste stations and water. Check the City of Lompoc Parks and Recreation website for current location and hours, as dog park facilities and rules can change.
Pet-Friendly Trails
Most of Lompoc's outdoor trail access is dog-friendly with basic leash requirements. La Purísima Mission State Historic Park permits leashed dogs on its trail network — 25 miles of chaparral and creek habitat that's excellent for active dogs. The mission buildings and enclosed areas require dogs to stay outside. The Miguelito County Park trails, river corridor paths, and the fire road access in the surrounding hills are all appropriate for leashed dogs.
Beach Access
Jalama Beach County Park has seasonal restrictions on dogs (prohibited from portions of the beach during peak summer), and Ocean Beach County Park has similar rules. Check current regulations before bringing dogs to the beach, and keep dogs away from seal haul-out areas and bird nesting zones.
Pet Services in Lompoc
Lompoc has multiple veterinary practices serving the pet-owning community, including both small animal clinics and those handling larger animals given the agricultural context. Pet supply stores, grooming services, and boarding facilities serve the local population. Check Lompoc Locals for current service listings and any promotions at local pet businesses.
Outdoor Patios
Several restaurants and cafes in Lompoc have outdoor patio seating that accommodates leashed dogs. Wine tasting rooms in the Ghetto are generally pet-friendly on their outdoor areas during good weather. Call ahead to confirm current pet policies.
