Lompoc Chalks 2026 turns the Veterans Memorial Building into an open-air gallery

About 40 chalk artists filled the grounds over three days, with live music, a kids' chalk corner and proceeds supporting the 1927 Lompoc Theatre.
For three days, Oct. 2 to 4, the grounds of the Lompoc Veterans Memorial Building became an outdoor gallery as roughly 40 chalk artists turned the pavement into oversized works of art at the annual Lompoc Chalks.
Visitors watched pieces grow from first sketch to finished mural: sunflowers and suns, California poppies, birds, monarch butterflies and more. Live music played under a tent, and kids filled their own chalk squares in a family corner.
Lompoc Chalks, which began in 2018, is presented by the Lompoc Theatre Project, the nonprofit restoring the 1927 Lompoc Theatre on North H Street. The festival helps raise support for the theatre, which is working toward a reopening in 2027.
