The Rancho Purisima Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution is asking the community to sponsor wreaths for veterans' graves this December.
The Rancho Purisima Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution is asking Lompoc residents to help honor local veterans this holiday season by sponsoring wreaths for the more than 1,600 veterans buried at Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery.
The effort is part of the national Wreaths Across America program, which places wreaths on veterans' graves each December. Sponsorships start at $17 for a single wreath and go up to $17,000 for 1,000 wreaths, with several levels in between. Donations can be made online at wreathsacrossamerica.org/CA0658P.
Ceremony set for December 19
The community is invited to attend the wreath-laying ceremony at Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery on Saturday, December 19, at 10 a.m., when volunteers will place the sponsored wreaths at veterans' gravesites. Those interested in business or corporate sponsorships can contact Deni Overton at 805-896-3822.
The Rancho Purisima Chapter also supports local veterans through other efforts, including helping restore the city's World War I Monument, supporting the Vietnam Veterans Memorial at River Park, and funding scholarships through its Good Citizen Education Awards.
