Night owls in the Lompoc Valley may get a show: a SpaceX Falcon 9 is targeting liftoff at 12:54 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, from Space Launch Complex 4E at Vandenberg Space Force Base.
The mission, Tranche 1 Transport Layer A, is one of six launches for the U.S. Space Force Space Development Agency's Tranche 1 Transport Layer, a constellation in low Earth orbit meant to provide resilient, low-latency military data links worldwide. The satellites are connected to each other by optical inter-satellite links.
Launch times can shift, sometimes on short notice. Another Falcon 9, carrying Starlink satellites, is scheduled from Vandenberg on Saturday, Oct. 10, around 4 p.m. Check the latest times before heading out to watch.
